Congratulations to Elizabeth for being one of our 2024 Scholarship for Higher Education recipients.
From Elizabeth: “Thank you to all for this wonderful, generous donation that is this scholarship. It means the world to me and my academic career to be able to receive this. This gift will not only help me now, but it will help me get to where I want to be in the future and my life/career after college. I know that with the schooling I get now and in the next couple years that I will be able to figure out a path that best suits me and my liking moving forward. It means a lot to me to be able to receive this and anything I receive that helps me achieve success is an honor and something I will always be grateful for, as I take my education very seriously. This donation has helped me tremendously and all I can hope for is that my career can impact people just as much as this has impacted me. Thank you!
SchOLARSHIP FOR HIGHER EDUCATION - ACHIEVE YOUR DREAMS!
We admire the drive and tenacity it takes for our members to pursue higher education. SBWIS is proud to offer this financial assistance due to the generous donation from the Potts family in memory of Mary Ann Potts, Ph.D. who had spina bifida and achieved her dreams! This fund was established in 1996 by the Potts/Weaver family.
Criteria: Applicants must be a Wisconsin resident with primary diagnosis of spina bifida. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited institution of higher education (University, College, Associate Degree Program, Vocational Training Program) for the current academic class period. Applications are reviewed and awards are determined by our Board of Directors. Students who have previously been awarded this scholarship are eligible to apply again with an updated personal statement and application materials. Scholarship awards will be paid directly to the institution of higher education. Applicants will be notified via email. Upon notification, awarded applicants must respond within 3 weeks and provide SBWIS with one photo (jpeg format) to use on our website, social media and to share with our donors and a thank you letter for us to share with donors.
We want to learn about your dreams and future plans. Your application must communicate your goals and help us understand how you tackle life and overcome obstacles to reach these goals. Good luck!
Application steps include: 1. Complete this online submission form (be sure to include the appropriate office and identifying information for where the scholarship award money should be sent).
2. Post mail or scan/email the additional required documents. If you choose to post mail the documents, be sure to allow plenty of time for mail delivery. Mail can not require a signature and it must be received by the deadline (not postmarked). Scanned/emailed documents are secure and confidential. Documents can not be dropped off at the SBWIS office due to an unfair advantage to those who live in the Metro-Milwaukee area. As a statewide organization, the submission process and deadline must be the same for everyone.
3. Meet the deadline of midnight April 30th, 2025. Application and all supporting documents must be received by this deadline (no exceptions).
